Inquiring Minds Want To Know

The Davidson River trailhead is perhaps the most popular area within the entire Pisgah National Forest, for mountain bikers, hikers, equestrians, rock climbers, fishermen, naturalists, photographers, CAMPERS and tourists alike. This is the quintessential National Forest recreation area, with a wide range of attractions that will delight any type of visitor. Being so close to a good highway and to town (Walmart, Bi-Lo, Ice Cream Shop, Barbeque take-out and Taco Bell), this area is perfect for someone who loves the outdoors but also likes being close to the amenities of the modern world excluding electricity and water at each and every campsite *sigh*. However, some of Pisgah's greatest back country and wilderness areas can be accessed from the area and the family dogs constantly begged to see those areas often. *sorry Cody, Sammie, Chico and Rio (spelled with one eye :) maybe next time!

Davidson River Campground

This campground is located about a mile past the main entrance to the National Forest when coming from Pisgah Forest, on the left. It is open year-round. There are 161 sites, some of which are closed during the winter months. Fees for sites range from $18/00/night for a single site (up to 8 people) away from the river and $20.00/night on the river to $36 & $40 for double sites. Flush toilets, hot showers, (still no electricity to use those extremely important personal appliances required for daily survival by most civilized WOMEN!) amphitheater, and river swimming and tubing are all offered here. It was FUN!!!
